Proper oral hygiene and care in childhood can prevent serious problems in later life

Did you know that tooth decay and other associated oral conditions are among the most common causes of primary-school-aged children in the UK being admitted to hospital? It’s crucial that your child has regular dental check-ups to make sure that their mouth is healthy and free from plaque and decay.
Here at Westerham Dental Care, we advise you to bring your child to see us from a young age, to help them get used to the surroundings and experience of a dental appointment. Children aged four and under can normally be seen within their parent’s appointment, and after that we advise that you make regular appointments for them with the dentist and hygienist.
During your child’s check-up, our experienced team will check their teeth for signs of decay. Often we can easily spot early signs of a problem, and these can often be treated with simple dietary changes and better brushing, rather than a need for drilling and filling. Where necessary, vulnerable tooth fissures (grooves) can also be sealed to prevent the development of decay at a later stage.
